0.4kV Output Efficient Power Transformer
,20kV Input Efficient Power Transformer

The Efficient 125KVA Transformer (20kV / 0.4kV) is a three-phase, dry-type step-down transformer engineered for reliable power distribution in demanding environments. It converts medium voltage (20kV) to low voltage (400V / 230V), suitable for urban power grids, industrial automation lines, commercial buildings, renewable energy storage coupling, and transportation hubs such as EV charging stations or railway auxiliary power. The unit features low core loss, high insulation class, and a compact design that reduces installation space while maintaining full-load efficiency above 97%. All materials are RoHS compliant and the enclosure rating (IP20 to IP34 optional) allows indoor or protected outdoor use.
- High Energy Efficiency – No-load loss ≤ 280W, load loss ≤ 1850W (at 125KVA), meeting DOE 2016 efficiency standards and reducing lifetime electricity cost.
- Wide Voltage Compatibility – Primary taps: ±2*2.5% (20kV) to adapt to grid fluctuations; secondary: 0.4kV stable output for standard industrial equipment.
- Robust Overload Capacity – 120% continuous overload and 150% short-term (1 hour) without overheating, thanks to Class H (180°C) insulation system.
- Low Noise & Maintenance-Free – Sound level ≤ 55 dB(A) at 1m; vacuum impregnated coils prevent moisture and dust ingress, eliminating routine oil checks or fluid replacement.
- Flexible Configuration – Options include copper/aluminum windings, electrostatic shield, temperature sensors (PTC/PT100), and enclosure type (IP20/IP23/ IP34) for tailored integration.

Core material: High-permeability grain-oriented silicon steel (M4 grade) with step-lap joint to reduce hysteresis loss.
Coil construction: Vacuum pressure impregnated (VPI) with H-grade varnish, ensuring moisture and pollution resistance.
Terminals: Primary – porcelain bushings for MV cable; Secondary – copper busbars with NEMA or DIN hole patterns.
Accessories: Temperature monitoring (4-20mA output), optional forced air cooling kit for 30% extra temporary capacity.

Condition: Voltage fluctuations in aging urban grids and harmonic distortion from non-linear loads (LED lighting, EV chargers).
Design measure: Primary taps (±2*2.5%) allow real-time voltage adjustment; the 4% impedance limits short-circuit current and reduces harmonic resonance.
Solution: Stable secondary output (0.4kV) ensures downstream breakers and meters operate reliably, minimizing unexpected tripping. Optional electrostatic shield between primary and secondary isolates common-mode noise.
Condition: High inrush current (motors, presses) causes thermal stress on windings; airborne dust and oil mist inside production areas.
Design measure: Class H insulation with 125°C temperature rise margin allows repeated starting current (up to 10x full load for 1 sec). VPI encapsulated coils resist dust, metal particles, and coolant mist.
Solution: Extended transformer life in harsh environments; no need for monthly cleaning or derating due to dusty coils.
Condition: Strict noise regulations (nighttime) and limited electrical room space.
Design measure: Core is clamped with vibration-damping rubber pads; sound level ≤55 dB(A) – quieter than an HVAC fan. Compact footprint (0.94 m²) fits through standard doorways.
Solution: Silent operation near patient rooms or hotel suites; lower installation cost due to reduced floor space and no special foundation required.
Condition: Bi-directional power flow from inverters (grid-tied systems) and DC offset during abnormal grid events.
Design measure: Dyn11 vector group provides zero-sequence current path, preventing voltage unbalance during unbalanced feed-in from single-phase inverters. Insulation enhanced for repetitive voltage spikes (5 kV BIL margin).
Solution: Reliable coupling of solar/wind generation to 0.4kV grid, reducing transformer heating caused by harmonic currents. Compatible with UL 1741 inverter requirements.
Condition: Load swings with EV fast chargers (idle to full power in seconds) and wide outdoor temperature variation.
Design measure: Overload capacity of 150% for 1 hour (short-term) handles sudden charging peaks. Core design with low hysteresis loss keeps temperature rise controlled even in unventilated underground transit areas.
Solution: No oversized transformer needed for peak EV charging demand; reduced thermal shutdown risk during summer peaks. IP34 enclosure (optional) resists road salts and spray from cleaning trucks.
-
Q1 (Urban Power Distribution): *Can this transformer handle unbalance from single-phase residential loads connected to the same 0.4kV bus?*
A: Yes. We recommend the Dyn11 vector group (optional). It allows zero-sequence current to circulate in the delta primary, limiting neutral point shift and voltage unbalance to <2% even with up to 30% load unbalance. Our standard Yyn0 group also works, but for severe unbalance we supply Dyn11.
-
Q2 (Industrial Production): *What is the short-circuit withstand strength of this 125KVA transformer? Does it comply with ANSI / IEC?*
A: The transformer is designed for a short-circuit duration of 3 seconds at 4% impedance. According to IEC 60076-5, the peak dynamic withstand is 2.5* symmetrical short-circuit current (about 25 kA peak for 125KVA / 0.4kV). We provide certified short-circuit test reports for EPC project submittals.
-
Q3 (Commercial Buildings): The electrical room has limited ventilation – maximum ambient 50°C. Can this transformer operate continuously?
A: Our standard rating is at 40°C ambient with 125°C temperature rise. For 50°C ambient, we can apply a derating factor (approx. 8% reduction) or add optional forced air cooling (AF) to maintain full capacity. Please specify high-ambient condition during ordering.
-
Q4 (Renewable Energy Systems): Does the transformer produce high inrush current when energizing from inverter side? How to coordinate protection?
A: Typical inrush current is 8–12* full load current for 0.1 second. For solar applications, we recommend a slow-trip circuit breaker (C-curve or K-curve) set at 15* rating for 0.2 seconds. Alternatively, a pre-magnetizing circuit can be integrated. Our technical team provides coordination calculations free of charge.
-
Q5 (Transportation Infrastructure): We need IP34 outdoor rating for an EV charging plaza in a coastal area. Does this model support corrosion protection?
A: Yes. We offer IP34 enclosures made of stainless steel 304 with marine-grade painting (C5-M corrosion class). All external bolts are zinc-nickel plated, and the core-coil assembly undergoes additional humidity-resistant varnish. Please request option “-IP34-M" for coastal installations.
